Happy Mother’s Day

roses.jpg

Roses are so beautiful and a perfect gift for Mom. Here is a picture of my Mom’s day roses. I’m adding this photo to the category ’stock photos.’ This is where I file pictures that I’m allowing others to use on their blogs or websites. Just be sure to download the photo.

Cute Pet Photos

Published by raesmom under Picture Day Edit This

Sometimes our pets do the cutest things. It’s usually after the fact that we think about snapping a photo. Today my brother’s dog Skittles was introduced to the chicks. He was enthralled. We fed the chicks some bread and then stood around laughing at them. All the time Skittles sat mesmerized by the chicks. So I went and got my digital camera. When I returned, Skittles hadn’t moved a muscle.

I tried to get a photo of him licking his chops but just couldn’t time it.

I was glad to be able to capture one of those cute moments with my digital camera. Usually the mood is broken or is over by the time I have my camera in hand. But not today. Those chicks had Skittles undivided attention for a good 20 minutes. That’s like 3 hours in dog time. Very impressive indeed.

Old Advertising on Buildings

Published by raesmom under Picture Day Edit This

The greatest thing about digital cameras is having a never ending ability to take pictures. No film to worry about and you can instantly review your pictures.  Since I bought my first digital camera, I take way more photos. Before film pictures were saved for special occasions. Now a blooming flower or a fluttering butterfly is enough reason for me to take a picture.

Old advertising signs always catch my attention especially when they are on the broadside of a building.  Here’s one of my favorite -

It’s so nice to take digital photos. You can capture so much that you can instantly share with others. In our town there are so many buildings that I want to photos because they are getting old and are in danger of being torn or falling down. I wanted to take this photo because I loved the advertising and the claim that Coca-cola relieves fatigue.

Sidewalk Chalk

Published by raesmom under Picture Day Edit This

chalk.jpg

Look what the three-year-old wanted from the store. Sidewalk chalk! There were 20 sticks in the box and they were shrink wrapped. So after opening four packs(5 to a pack) I finally got them stuffed back into the box. I see why they were shrink wrapped. So not five minutes later, she has the chalk all laid out on the floor.

Before picking the chalk up, I thought it’d be fun to take a few digital pictures. I took the camera off auto focus and took a few on manual focus. The little girl likes to line up her toys and such. If only her mother were so interested in keeping things in order.

Photographing Animals

Published by raesmom under Picture Day Edit This

chicks.jpg

Today I took some pictures of our newest pets - chicks. I figured by the time Easter rolls around, they will be too big and ugly to photograph. So I found some plastic eggs and staged a small photo shoot with a few of them.

It takes patience to photograph animals. Thank goodness for the DSLR because I can’t imagine getting anything useful with my old digital camera. These chicks are fast.

I did get a few cute shots that I will probably use in blog posts as it gets closer to Easter. While there are plenty of free places to find photos, I prefer to take photos when I can. This gives me practice at taking photos and ensures a uniqueness to the image on my blog.

Photo a Day

Published by raesmom under Picture Day Edit This

Part of my New Year’s resolutions was to learn more about digital photography. To learn, you really need to just do it. So I’ve been taking a photo a day. There are several bloggers that take a least one photo a day. There are several Flickr groups dedicated to taking a photo a day.

So far I haven’t missed a day and it’s really helped me to keep at my goal of learning more about digital photography. It’s a great opportunity to take a photo to document something important about the day or to try new techniques.

I’m finding that I’m thinking more about taking photos that I did before. Now that I have a goal to take a photo a day, it keeps photography in the forefront of my mind. Hopefully the end result will be I will develop better photo taking skills.

Merry Christmas

Published by raesmom under Picture Day Edit This

Hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas and a wonderful Christmas season. Ours is off to a great start. This time of year is always a mixed blessing. Sad that another year is over but exciting in that a new one will soon start.

With the new year, I will be making a resolution to learn more about digital photography. I also want to get into the routine of taking at least one photo a day. So to keep me motivated, I will be posting a picture a day. Sometimes these may not be my photos as I can’t really expect to take a photo worth sharing each and every day.

Today I want to share a photo from last December. It’s my daughter helping to decorate the Christmas tree -

Now it’s time to get back to playing with those Christmas gifts. Happy holidays!
